eCommerce websites have SEO problems that standard audits do not address with sufficient depth. The result is stores that have strong content and good backlinks but fail to rank because of invisible technical issues at scale.

The Four Critical eCommerce SEO Problems
Faceted navigation URL proliferation. Every filter combination creates a new URL. Ten color filters plus eight size filters plus six brand filters generates thousands of URL variants. Each consumes crawl budget on a page that will never rank and dilutes the authority of your real product pages.
Duplicate product descriptions. Manufacturer descriptions used across multiple products or stores create duplicate content that suppresses rankings sitewide. Every product page needs unique descriptive content.
Missing Product schema. Without Product schema your listings have no star ratings, no price, no availability in Google search results. Competitors with Product schema consistently outperform identical content on CTR from the same ranking position.
AI shopping crawler blocking. In 2026 AI shopping assistants are beginning to recommend specific products. Blocked AI crawlers mean zero AI shopping visibility. Check immediately at aiagentchecker.net.
Platform-Specific Issues
Shopify: The /collections/ duplicate URL problem. Every product is accessible via two URLs. Canonical tags must point all collection-path product URLs to the primary /products/ URL. Verify this is working on custom themes as they often override Shopify’s default canonical behavior.
WooCommerce: Tag and attribute archive pages consume crawl budget on low-value URLs. Use Rank Math or Yoast to set these to noindex or add canonical tags pointing to relevant category pages.
BigCommerce: Faceted navigation requires specific crawl budget configuration. Work with your technical team to ensure filtered URL variants are excluded from Googlebot’s crawl path while remaining accessible to users.
